HED Institution Leadership Board Meeting (Closed Session for Contributing Member Institutions)

The next meeting of the IMS Global Higher Education Institutional Leadership Board will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 10:00 am – Noon. This meeting is exclusively for institutional leaders that represent the Contributing Member HED institutions on the board who are helping to shape the work of the IMS community.

 During this two-hour meeting we will:

  • Continue to evolve the Collaborative App Vetting Environment (App Registry) that will foster a collaborative approach for vetting third-party tools and help your campus streamline the vetting process.
  • Develop an implementable, common strategy for identifying and solving emerging pain points by advancing integration capabilities.
  • Design a strategy for on-boarding and expanding the collection and use of learning data on campuses by: (1) Identifying a common core of data profiles that are relevant to institutions; (2) brainstorm high-value use cases and examples focused on faculty empowerment, student success, and a strategic decision-making; (3) examine the feasibility and implementation of a cross-institutional analytics pilot using this core.

Across higher education, harnessing technology’s potential for enabling innovation and supporting academic transformation is a common challenge. Academic and IT leaders are finding that it takes out-of-the-box thinking and collaboration across an institution to disrupt the norms, architect a shared vision, and create an integrated plan to leverage data at all levels of decision-making. Strategic leadership is also required to guide the comprehensive shifts of institutional change that are needed to reach the goal of a fully integrated digital ecosystem. Join IMS Global members for a half-day deep dive into how collaborations are advancing the adoption and use of learning data and analytics. We will examine a variety of institutional models for collaboration, partnerships, and integrated planning where the use of data has productively shaken the status quo and supported the transformation of learning and student success.
  • Evolving the EdTech Master Plan: Strategies for Institutional Leaders
    (20 Minutes): 
    Institutions are finding different ways to foster cross-campus collaborations and engaging in highly successful strategic conversations to architect effective edtech visions and master plans. In this session, we will define strategies for sharing an institution’s edtech maturity model. We will also, as a group, identify and develop some useful resources to help make this conversation accessible to all partnerships. UW-Madison is building a next-generation student digital ecosystem (SDE) to improve teaching and learning experience for students, faculty, and staff. The ecosystem will connect university-wide systems including student information, learning management and curriculum management systems, as well as digital assessment tools.  In this session, we will see how the University of Wisconsin-Madison is fostering institutional collaboration on assessment of teaching and learning in partnership with AEFIS Assessment Management Platform to help realize its data collection, continuous improvement, and analytics goals.

Developing an Institutional Position for Analytics
Faculty, students, and staff have at their fingertips an immense amount of data that is underutilized for many reasons. For most, their use of learning data has been limited to querying to answer questions and reporting on how many, how often, where, and what is the problem. For constituents across the institution, these rich deposits of data seem to be locked away in a closet, only for select segments of the institution. But this is changing rapidly. Data opens up a range of possibilities to support student success in new and innovative ways. Admittedly the on-ramp for moving from data as a reporting tool to a broader application of analytics is hard. We will spend this segment of our time working together to develop guideposts that institutions can use to help their IT departments and partners hit the tipping point for analytics.
