Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.

With the myriad of digital systems that school districts are using today, student performance information and usage data exists in silos. What processes, strategies and technologies will help aggregate data across the digital ecosystem? IMS Global’s K-12 Summit brings together thought leaders to explore these issues, learn from each other and determine how to ensure student success using data and analytics.

Closed Session for K-12 District/State Leaders and Sponsors of the K-12 Summit

1:00 – 1:15 pm -- Welcome, Introductions and Opening Comments

1:15 – 2:15 pm -- A Conversation with Educational Leaders on How to Collect Data and What to Do with It?

Including Lloyd Brown, Chief Information Officer, Baltimore County Public Schools; Jamey Hynds, Director of Business Intelligence, Katy ISD; Tricia Kennedy, Director eClass Transformation, Gwinnett County Public Schools; Keith Osborn, Associate Superintendent, Georgia Virtual Learning at Georgia DOE; Serena Sacks, Chief Information Officer, Fulton County Schools

  • What are districts and states doing to advance and enable using data and analytics from across the digital ecosystem to inform pedagogical decisions?
  • What kinds of processes, strategies and technologies don’t yet exist to enable real-time pedagogical decisions based on student performance and metrics the digital ecosystem?
  • How can leaders build relationships between instructional and technology leaders that enables student-centered learning systems?

2:15 - 3:00 pm -- Table Talk Discussions: Learning from Others’ Experiences

Participate in an engaging and thought-provoking discussion with your peers to uncover the current strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist in accelerating these use of data and analytics to support student centered learning.

Guiding questions:

  • What privacy concerns do institutions have when rostering data?
  • What prevents district leaders from making the most of the data available in the entire digital ecosystem?
  • What prevents teachers from making the most of the data available in the entire digital ecosystem?
  • Are there strategies to assist teachers in reducing the need for double data entry (e.g. creating an assignment in one platform and then manually entering results into the student information system)?

3:00 – 3:30pm -  Break

3:30 – 4:00pm - Collecting Performance and Usage Data with A Strategic Approach in Mind

How can you efficiently and effectively mine data to drive the decision-making process for resources to personalize learning for each student? Learn from those who have begun to solve this challenge using the open architecture supported by advanced features of IMS Global’s Learning Tools Interoperability, Thin Common Cartridge, and OneRoster standards. Walk away with concrete ideas you can implement immediately.

  • Dealing with multiple points of entry, usernames and passwords can be solved with “one-click” system integration strategies
  • Gathering performance and assessment outcomes from siloed applications resolved by implementing integration tools to transmit the data automatically to your system of record
  • Simplify the adoption and use of digital content by aggregating resources through a portal

4:00 - 4:50 pm - Where Do We Go from Here?

Collaborate with your peers to take all of today’s learnings and develop a roadmap for implementation in your own district and inform the future work of IMS Global.

  • What are the three key ideas that you will take away from today’s summit to implement a plug and play approach to using data and analytics to support student centered learning?
  • What are the top two things that the IMS community should focus on based on everything you heard today?
  • What is one important way can we collaboratively expedite adoption of IMS standards?
